Force and Motion

Rest and Motion

If we look around a meditation hall, we see many things. All these do not appear to move, they are said to be at rest.

A body is said to be at rest, if it does not change its position with respect to a fixed point in its surroundings. For example, a pen lying on a table, if not disturbed by anybody, does not change its position with respect to the table. So the pen is said to be in a state of rest.Similarly, the pillars of a bridge are also at rest.
